Krabi
Krabi is one of Thailand’s southern provinces on the Andaman seaboard and has the longest history of continued settlement in Thailand. After dating stone tools, ancient colored pictures, beads, pottery and skeletal remains found in the province’s many cliffs and caves, it is thought that Krabi has been home to homo sapiens since the period 25,000 – 35,000 B.C.
Nowadays Krabi belongs to one of the top destination for beach and island lovers and is easily accessible to Koyao and the other Phang Nga islands.
With various national parcs around the province, Krabi is a place to dig into the history of mankind. The Chao Le, or sea gypsies have been along the waters of Krabi for many years, making a sustainable living of fishing. The often live on or around the Koyao islands.
Most of the inhabitants of the top desitnations heritage are from the Chao Le. Ao Nang, Railay, Phi Phi islands were the home of the Chao Le people before tourism was developed. Nowadays their off spring work as tour guides or own small resorts on places such as Lanta Islands and Koh Phi Phi. These are ideal locations for snorkelling, scuba diving and adventure trips. Many people enjoy around the area with their own or chartered sailing boat.
The natural park surrounding the Krabi province is famous for the coral islands and diving sites, bird watching, kayaking and rock climbing. There are over 80 different Islands around the Krabi province which are best visited in the dry season from October until April.
